This Just In!

Good Morning All!

I am sitting outside drinking up the sunshine vitamin enjoying my morning coffee and breakfast of hard boiled eggs and Ezekiel cereal with rice milk. I did not forget my flax seed or bee pollen. But as I was noshing on these lovely foods I heard the CNN news report. Can it be true? It is recommended that children as young as two should be tested for cholesterol and that infants are having strokes. I have long suggested that if this nutrition thing does not turn around our youth may be in for serious trouble. Now it has happened. I feel sad and then angry. Angry that we are succumbing to sick food and sickness. If there is a time for us to stand up and protect what is rightfully ours it is now. Our health is the promise of the future. Without it nothing is possible.

If you are reading this now, go over to your little ones and look them in the eyes. Hug them and recommit to proper nourishment even it does take a few minutes longer to make oatmeal than pour a box of SUGARY CRAP into a cereal bowl. Isn't thier health worth it?

Now I am going to write a Raise the Bar column about this too!

My best to you and your loved ones. Make it a Clean Eating day!
Your sister in strength!

Tosca, I could not agree more with you. Recently, you talked about giving back through community service. I am going to find a way to give back through some sort of children's activity program.

This is some of the saddest news I have heard recently. Tosca, thank you from bringing awareness and for putting in your efforts to trying to make it change.

If this isn't a wake up call to all adults then nothing else will...we can all influence someone else's life by simply being a living example. Thanks for sharing!

This is sad news indeed. Though we as clean eaters are judged for our habbits and way of life, there are parents out there that can give their children all this junk and justify it by putting them on a pill, not a healthy eating plan.
I myself give in from time to time to my children, but we all need to change, and I m ready to do that. I wouldnt let my children play in the road so why should I let them eat a greasy happy meal?

I heard the news report this morning. It's so easy for society to accept taking medication rather than trying to adapt a healthy eating lifestyle.

ughhhhh!!!!! this makes me SOOOO angry! i am irate about this. why do parents think they're doing their children "good" by giving in to their desires of sugary, fatty, greasy foods??? they're doing them an extreme disservice! it irritates me more than anything else, and you can't tell them otherwise b/c they just accuse you of being "obsessed" and "ridiculous." whatever....that's why i look the way i do and you don't!!! hahaha!

Tosca, this is truly upsetting. It just keeps getting worse and worse for children. I cannot wait for your new book and to be able to bring those ideas to those around me. Thanks for all you have done and will do. And thanks to other clean eaters who are working alongside you!

Tosca I hear ya! I dont have any children of my own yet but you better beleive they will be little clean eaters.

Its so sad and the worst part is that kids don't know any better. You can do everything you can at home...and then they can still get coaxed into cookies and crap at school, on field trips and birthday parties. Everyone needs to stand up and make a difference. You're the leader ;)

I have to say that I am not in the slightest bit surprised. While I heard this on Headline News, I just sat there and said to myself, "Of course". Jaded, I know, but I am what I am.

What did we expect when "parents" these days don't give their kids the gift of the word 'No'? Just give 'em what they want, even Big Nasty Macs, ice cream, soda, and potato chips! YAY!

Thanks to everyone for their comments. This sparked quite a flurry of excitement. I've been discussing the matter all week with my family and it's truly a terrible thing. Thanks to everyone for your input.

You are SO right!!! I have a friend who takes at least 15-20 pills a day!!! I think she would be much better off if she could get her eating under control.

I have an 8 year old daughter and I try very hard to 'gently' teach her about good nutrition. I say, "gently" because if you force it on kids too much, they will rebel. I love it when she gets her food around for breakfast and says, "Look mom, I have a fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, and milk". Kids are going to still want the junk food, but I tell her that you have to have a balance between the two. I have made a decision for this coming school year, when her teacher asks for snacks to be brought in, I am going to make sure it is something healthy, not just cookies (like I have done in the past).
