Last Chance for Team Diabetes!

Team Diabetes was kind enough to extend the date of our donation period until tomorrow!

This is the last chance to help our team! We're running the Goodlife Toronto 1/2 Marathon on October 17th in support of Team Diabetes.

So what will your donation do?

Aside from benefiting research we are very fond of here at the Eat-Clean Diet a donation of $20 will automatically get you a signed photograph and will also enter you in for a chance to win a phone consult with me!

To make a donation to Team Diabetes, please visit Teamdiabetes.ca. Select “pledge” and search for my team under “Tosca Reno.” When you’re finished, email my team at with your name, address and phone number to let us know you’ve made a donation. All pledges must be collected by TOMORROW (Oct. 1, 2010), so please do not delay! Click here for more details.

I am very fond of this cause and very much appreciate your support. Together we can make a huge difference with very little effort.

Good morning everyone,

Discussing the ever important issue of portion sizes. Use your hands as tools to measure.

Good turnout from the Harlequin team. Thanks for your support!

So What's The Difference... Eat Clean Diet & Your Best Body Now

Many of you are wondering what the difference is between the Eat-Clean Diet Series and Your Best Body Now.

This is a completely valid question, and I would like to clear up any confusion between these 2 projects.

Here are 8 reasons how Your Best Body Now differs from the Eat-Clean Diet...

1. It's biographical.

2. It deals with specific age groups and how to handle those changes related to aging by decade.

3. Different decades means different regimens.

4. It offers motivation, inspiration, nutrition and exercise as well as beauty tips.

5. It provides more of my story.

6. New recipes.

7. New workout routines.

8. New strategies for firing up your metabolism.

This is the book for every woman who ever looked into the mirror and thought her best days are over. Your Best Body Now is the answer telling you if I can do it so can you.

1 DAY AND COUNTING!

Leaving Las Vegas

We're heading out of Las Vegas today after a whirlwind weekend at the Olympia 2010. Wow! What a great time it has been. We're thriller for Jay Cutler for having won the title of Mr. Olympia! Well done.

We've been training lots while we've been here, but we've also eaten lots of yummy food. I have to admit it wasn't all clean. Even I give into the odd treat every now and again and Vegas has a lot to offer! It was difficult to fit in 6 meals each day so we wound up eating fewer meals. This isn't how I would usually do things, but the last minute nature of the trip left me a little unorganized.

We did manage to enjoy a little bit of time off before the book launch of Your Best Body Now hits this week. It's going to be insanely busy from this point onwards.

Recharging my batteries and hitting the ground running as soon as the plane touches down in Toronto.

HERE WE GO!!

Then & Now: The Differences Your Best Body Will Have

It's amazing how small changes can make a big difference in your life. Here are 5 things to look forward to once you begin creating Your Best Body Now:

1. Then I drank tons of soda each day... Now I am 55 pounds lighter just from making that small change.

2. Then my blood work was poor... Now I'm as healthy as a horse and my hypoglycemia is gone!

3. Then my pantry was full of chips, cookies and fake food... Now it's full of whole grains, nuts & seeds, & dried fruit so I can reach for a healthy snack whenever I need it and I never feel deprived.

4. Then my gym routine consisted of an armchair workout with my remote... Now I feel healthy & strong when I lift weights 3 times each week.

5. Then I felt depressed & hated looking at myself in the mirror... Now I feel confident & don't rely on anyone else's opinion to define who I am.

What Do Tomatoes & the Olympia Weekend Have in Common?

Quite a lot since two busy weekends of travel have gotten in the way of my canning plans!

I was supposed to get cracking on the countless bushels of tomatoes I have in my kitchen, but an extended stay in NYC for work last weekend and my early morning flight to Las Vegas this morning have completely kiboshed those plans! Sigh. Canning details, pics and recipes will have to wait until I come back from Sin City.

I am here for the Olympia Weekend 2010. It's been quite a few years, and I am really excited to see what's going on. Bob and I will be out and about around Las Vegas until Sunday. You can learn more here.

See you on The Strip!

Settling Into September: Getting Your Best Body and Eating Clean for Busy Parents & Kids

Fall has officially arrived!

The kids are back to school and this is an excellent time to switch up your routine and start a healthier lifestyle.

So how can you begin your new fall routine?

Start by cleaning up your family lunches:
- Try almond butter and fresh strawberries in your whole grain sandwich rather than the standard peanut butter and jam.
- Choose hummus as your new favorite spread. It's the white peanut butter. Pair it with sliced veggies and whole-grain crackers or pita slices.
- Try the Mexican Tomato Chicken Soup in Your Best Body Now one night for dinner.

Then implement family activities:
- Walk around the block or going to the park after dinner
- Discover new hiking trails on the weekends
- Bike (until the snow comes)

The change of season is a perfect time for starting Your Best Body Now. Learn more in Your Best Body Now arriving in stores on September 28.

Juicy Morning

This is what I juiced together this morning for a boost:

2 bunches beet greens
2 cloves raw garlic (great anti-viral especially during this change of season)
3 carrots
2 apples
1/2 bunch celery
Hand full parsley
Several sprigs oregano

Delicious!

Allison's Got It!

Last week Eat-Clean Diet super success, Allison Earnst, had an amazing shoot with Paul Buceta and company. She was shooting a spread for an upcoming issue of Oxygen magazine. Keep an eye out!

She did a great job and the whole team had an amazing time. The best part? A yummy steak dinner after the shoot. After a lot of hard work she definitely deserved the splurge.

Read Allison's story here. Feel inspired? Sign up for our 3rd annual Eat-Clean Diet Body Makeover Challenge for your chance at a spread in Oxygen magazine, too!

Getting all glitzed up for the camera... Thanks Val!

Hmmm... which suit to choose? Stylist Nadia picked some great ones!

Getting a nice pump up before the shoot! P.S. Her heels make her legs look more toned in shots, I wouldn't recommend working out in them!

Wow! Looking great Allison!

And all thanks to a good clean diet.

Your Best Body Now College Edition: Getting Your Best Body & Eating Clean on Campus

Are there less than stellar options available on your meal plan? Here are a few strategies to make sure you aren’t one of the many college/university students who gains the freshman 15!

1) Take advantage of the school gym. Usually it’s included in your tuition. They may even offer free personal training and fitness classes.

2) Speak to the management of your school cafeteria and request healthier choices be made available. Even a salad bar would make a difference!

3) Join an intramural sports team and commit yourself to the team between classes. You’ll make new friends, too.

4) Avoid late night study sessions, which often go hand-in-hand with heavy snack binges. You will pay for it later on!

5) Walk everywhere. One of the best features of the college lifestyle is walking to and from classes and around town for errands. Use a pedometer to keep track of your mileage.

Get more tips like this from Your Best Body Now, which makes its debut on September 28th in bookstores everywhere! Learn more about it here.

Please feel free to share you tips in the comments section. I'd love to hear how you manage the often inevitable weight gain that comes with starting school.

Love,
Tosca

You Love Canning

Wow! What a great response I received from my canning post the other day. I had no idea so many of you are interested in finding the time to whip up delicious jarred creations to enjoy all year long. The chill in the air always drives me to the stove. I love to put food up. Not only do I can tomatoes but I pickle beets and cukes, make low-sugar jams and relishes and more.

I just completed a batch of tomatoes and I will be doing more on Saturday after I return from NYC (I'm here starting promotions for Your Best Body Now which debuts September 28th). I will use onions, garlic and herbs from my own garden to flavor the sauce... I'll be posting my canning recipe on my website very soon so stay tuned! It may seem like work and it is but it is satisfying because I know it is an investment in both my health and my time.

Time you ask? Yes! Once the tomatoes are sauced you have a natural version of Fast Food which is even faster because it's already in your house. Here are some yummy ideas to make your next quick meal.

1. Open a jar to serve with pasta - a meal in minutes.
2. Use the sauce as a base from which to make tomato soup.
3. Grill a few chicken breasts and top with jarred sauce.
4. Bake a regular or sweet potato and top with sauce.
5. Chop kale and or Swiss chard. Saute in olive oil until limp, toss with jarred sauce.

I will take many pics when I get "sauced" on Saturday. Stay tuned!

It's Dinnertime

Summer may be dwindling down, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy your favorite warm-weather meals. Enjoy a few more weeks of late sunsets and pleasant evenings with a delicious, clean meal. Thanks to Eat-Clean Diet reader, Connie, for sharing your Turkey Guacamole Burgers. Yum yum yum!

Canning Time

I had a bushel of delicious looking tomatoes from my garden waiting for me to can them. I finally got to business making a batch of yummy tomato sauce. It's the perfect base for soup, pasta sauce, chili and more. I've been canning for years and years. I love knowing I'm creating a delicious and nutritious preservative-free sauce that my family can enjoy all year long. Now it's time to round out my apple supply to get to work on a batch of clean applesauce. Oh I love the fall!

Toronto 1/2 Marathon Training

My Running Gear

This morning my daughter and I decided to go on a 11km run in preparation for the upcoming Toronto 1/2 Marathon on October 17. The heat wave is coming to an end here in Southern Toronto, but it was no cooler this morning than any of the other hot humid days this week. We were set to run and the heat wasn't going to hold us back!

Well it held us back more than a little. The run was brutal! My lungs felt like they were fighting for air the entire 11kms and I stopped for numerous breaks along the way. Luckily we were able to jump in the pool for a cool down but it took me so long to untie my shoelaces my fingers were shaking so bad. I was left feeling extremely discouraged for the fast approaching race day. Yikes!

Ironically amongst my list of things to-do and web surfing today I was sent a link to an article from the Globe and Mail "How to Keep Your Head in the Race". Check out the wonderful tips they have to offer, I will definitely be putting these to good use the next time I hit the pavement.

Tired, sweaty and discouraged! But still alive.

Don't forget: help us help others and make your donations to Team Diabetes, our team at this year's Toronto Marathon. You have a chance to win a phone consultation with me and support an amazing cause! Follow this link for details.

Keep it tight,
Tosca Reno

Help Us Help Others in Need!

There’s just over a month until the GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon and training is in full swing – I’ve been running my heart out, despite the late-summer heat we’ve been experiencing here in Southern Ontario. The Eat-Clean Diet team will be running the half marathon (13.1 miles or 21 kilometers) distance in support of Team Diabetes and we need your help to reach our donation goal!

This is a cause I feel very strongly about! We at The Eat-Clean Diet believe in the importance of eating a healthy diet to avoid developing and alleviate symptoms of chronic ailments such as diabetes. More and more people are diagnosed with diabetes every year but we can stop the trend and we can make a difference with your help!

Each person who makes a donation of $20 or more will receive an autographed photo and will also be entered into a draw for a one-hour phone consult from me. If you have any burning questions about Eating Clean or training, here is your chance to get them answered personally and support a wonderful cause at the same time.

To make a donation to Team Diabetes, please visit Teamdiabetes.ca. Select “pledge” and search for my team under “Tosca Reno.” When you’re finished, email my team at with your name, address and phone number to let us know you’ve made a donation. All pledges must be collected by September 17th, 2010, so please do not delay! Click here for more details.

Thank you in advance for your generous support. Together we can make a difference!

Keep it tight,
Tosca
